Lemonade Base

Bright, clean, and tart, this two-ingredient lemonade base mixes in seconds and delivers consistent lemon flavour diluted to order with water or soda.

Ingredients

  • 450 ml (2 cups) lemon juice
  • 500 ml (2 cups) simple syrup

Instructions

  1. 1
Combine lemon juice and simple syrup. Stir to mix. 2. Label, date, refrigerate.
  2. 2
[Per serving] 1. Combine 60 ml (2 oz) base with ice in a glass. 2. Top with plain or sparkling water to taste.

Cook's Note

The base is intentionally sweet and concentrated, it will taste too sharp and too sweet on its own. Taste the diluted drink before service and adjust the base-to-water ratio slightly if the lemons are more or less tart than usual.

How to Use This

Measure 60 ml (2 oz) over ice and top with water. Adjust to preference.

Why This Foundation Works

Simple syrup blends into lemon juice immediately without graininess, and the sweetness stays even across the whole batch. Making a concentrated base means every drink starts from the same point regardless of who makes it.

Make It Yours

  • Add a few fresh mint leaves to the glass.
  • Mix with still water and a splash of sparkling for a lightly effervescent version.

Leftover Strategy

Keeps refrigerated for up to one week.
