Soy Ginger Sauce recipe

Sweet, savory, and fragrant with ginger, this is a quick sauce that works as a dipping sauce, a dressing, or a finishing glaze. Five minutes, seven ingredients.

Ingredients

  • 120 ml (½ cup) honey
  • 120 ml (½ cup) soy sauce
  • 2 tsp sesame oil
  • 1 tbsp rice wine vinegar
  • 1 tbsp ground ginger
  • 2 tbsp garlic, minced
  • 3 tsp fish sauce

Instructions

  1. 1
Combine all ingredients in a bowl.
  2. 2
    Whisk until fully combined.

Cook's Note

Ground ginger is more intense than fresh, if substituting fresh, use 3 times the amount (about 1 tbsp ground = 3 tbsp fresh grated). The sauce tastes better after 15–20 minutes as the ginger and garlic have time to settle in.

How to Use This

Use as a dipping sauce, finishing glaze, or salad dressing.

Why This Foundation Works

Honey and soy together give you sweetness and umami in one base. Fish sauce adds a savory depth that keeps the sauce from tasting like a sweet glaze, it adds complexity without changing the overall flavor direction.

Make It Yours

  • Add fresh grated ginger instead of ground for a brighter, more floral ginger flavor
  • Add sliced fresh jalapeño for heat
  • Add a tablespoon of sesame seeds for texture

Leftover Strategy

Keeps covered in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks.
