Sweet, crunchy, and bright from the Jello, this three-ingredient crumble bakes in under 5 minutes. It smells and tastes intensely like strawberry shortcake and works as a topping or layer in any dessert.
Ingredients
- 22 Golden Oreos
- 1 package (85 g / 3 oz) Strawberry Jello
- 120 ml (1/2 cup) butter, melted
Instructions
- 1
Preheat the oven to 180 °C (350 °F). Line a baking sheet with parchment.
- 2
Place the Oreos in a zip-lock bag and crush with a rolling pin into small crumbles, not dust.
- 3
Put the crushed Oreos in a bowl. Add the Jello powder and mix to combine.
- 4
Pour the melted butter over the mixture and stir until everything is coated.
- 5
Spread in an even layer on the lined baking sheet.
- 6
Bake for 3–4 minutes. Remove and let cool completely before using.
Cook's Note
Don't overbake, 3 to 4 minutes is all it needs. The goal is to just set the butter and toast the crumble very slightly. Any longer and the Jello burns and turns bitter.
Best Served With
Over vanilla ice cream, as a trifle layer, or sprinkled on strawberry cheesecake.
Why This Recipe Works
The Jello adds both flavor and color without adding any liquid. It clings to the crushed Oreos and bonds with the butter in the oven, producing a crumble that's both dry enough to scatter and sticky enough to hold together slightly.
Make It Yours
- Use lemon or raspberry Jello for a different flavor.
- Layer with vanilla ice cream as a no-bake dessert.
- Press into a pan and freeze as a crumble crust.
Leftover Strategy
Keeps in an airtight container at room temperature for 5 days. Re-crisp in a warm oven briefly if it softens.
